Rooftop bars and surf 'n' turf grills cater to the business and banking crowd, while the art galleries and trendy boutiques in downtown Brickell attract stylish locals. The Brickell Avenue Bridge spans the Miami River and overlooks the Miami Circle Waterfront Park and Archaeological Site. Brickell is also much safer than downtown, especially at night, Brickell is the safest place in all of Miami Dade County. metrobus Miami-Dade Transit operates the Metrobus, a bus system that covers more than 95 routes throughout the county. In theory, you can get almost anywhere you need to go on the bus, if you're willing to walk a few blocks when you get there. However, irregular schedules and long waits for bus transfers can turn a 30-minute drive into a 90-minute bus ride. The system works best for people who don't need to transfer and who use popular routes where buses stop frequently. There are also Express buses that run between Miami Beach and the Miami International Airport Metrorail station, to Broward County, and from Metrorail to South Dade. You can use the county's online trip planner to map your Miami Metrobus route. Regular fare is $2.25, exact change only, or a fare card. Discount plans are available to seniors, the disabled, students, county employees, and travel card holders. Metrorail and Metromover We couldn't put our commuter rail system underground, so we put it above the streets. Metrorail and Metromover are Miami's answer to a subway. Metrorail covers 25 miles of the most populated areas of Miami-Dade, with 23 stations stretching from Hialeah to Dadeland. The newer station serves Miami International Airport. Metrorail fares are $2.25 and you must have a fare card, usually available from a machine at the station. Metrorail runs until 11 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends. It is a good option to get to downtown Miami as well as other locations near its stations. Metromover, which covers a 4.4-mile route in and around downtown, is free. It's a great option for commuting between downtown and Brickell as you can avoid traffic jams and parking hassles. The trains come frequently. cars The cities of Miami, Miami Beach and Coral Gables have free trolley service between popular areas and to connect with Metrobus and Metrorail. These can be a great option for traveling to events, like a gallery, when parking is tight. Cities often increase trolley service during major events as well. Find Miami streetcars, Miami Beach streetcars and the Coral Gables streetcar. trirail The Tri-Rail system (short for tri-county rail) connects West Palm Beach with suburban Miami at the Metrorail station. The commuter rail system can work well for those who live and work near the stations and work during the day. But the tracks run west of the downtown areas, so Tri-Rail is not a viable option for many commutes. Shared rides and taxis Both Lyft and Uber operate throughout Miami-Dade County. People have been known to leave their cars at home and use a ride-sharing service to get to Wynwood, South Beach, Brickell and other places where parking is hard to find. Depending on where you live, the ride could cost less than parking. Traditional taxis are another option, but you must hail rather than call in most places.
